How to hide followers on TikTok (and what you cannot hide)

TikTok lets you hide who you follow, but not your followers list or counts on a public account. The exact steps, plus what going private costs you.

A TikTok profile showing the following and followers counts

You can hide your following list on TikTok. Open Settings and privacy, tap Privacy, tap Following list, and choose Only me. That hides who you follow from everyone (TikTok Help, Followers and following).

You cannot hide your followers list or your follower count on a public account. Both show on every public profile. The only way to hide your followers list is to switch to a private account, and even then the counts still show.

This guide gives the steps for each setting, what each one hides, and what going private costs you.

What TikTok lets you hide, and what it does not

What you want to hide Can you? How
Who you follow (following list) Yes Privacy, Following list, Only me
Your followers list Only on a private account Privacy, Private account
Your follower count No Shows on every profile
Your following count No Shows on every profile
Videos you liked Yes Privacy, Liked videos, Only me
One specific follower Yes, remove them Followers list, three dots, Remove this follower
Your whole profile from one person Yes, block them Their profile, Block

The follower and following counts are the part people get wrong. TikTok Help’s page on followers and following describes the Following list setting, but there is no setting for the counts. A visitor can always see the two numbers, even on a private account.

How to hide your following list on TikTok

This is the setting most people are looking for. It hides the list of people you follow.

  1. Open TikTok and tap Profile in the bottom right.
  2. Tap the three-line menu icon in the top right.
  3. Tap Settings and privacy.
  4. Tap Privacy.
  5. Scroll to Following list and tap it.
  6. Choose Only me.

The other two options are Everyone and Friends (TikTok Help). Pick Friends if you want people who follow you back to still see the list.

The change is instant. Your following count stays visible, but tapping it shows nothing to other people.

Can you hide people you follow on TikTok one at a time?

No. The Following list setting is all or nothing. You cannot hide one account you follow and show the rest. If one follow is the problem, unfollow that account, or set the whole list to Only me.

How to hide your followers list: go private

There is no Followers list setting. The only way to stop strangers from seeing your followers list is a private account.

  1. Open Profile, then the three-line menu.
  2. Tap Settings and privacy, then Privacy.
  3. Turn on Private account.

On a private account, only followers you approve can see your videos, your liked videos, your followers and your following (TikTok Help, Followers and following). New people have to send a follow request. Anyone who already follows you stays a follower. So if the person you want off the list already follows you, remove them first. The steps are below.

Accounts for users under 16 are set to private by default (TikTok Help, teen privacy and safety settings).

Watch out: the follower count still shows on a private account. Going private hides the names on the list, not the number.

What a private account costs you

Private is not free. It changes how TikTok treats your videos.

TikTok’s help center explains that the For You feed recommends videos to people who do not follow you (TikTok Help, How TikTok recommends content). A private account’s videos are shown only to approved followers. So they do not reach strangers in the For You feed. Growth from the feed stops.

That matters if you want more followers. Every new follower has to find you some other way and then wait for approval. For a personal account that only friends watch, that trade is fine. For an account trying to grow, it is a wall.

If you want the list hidden but the growth on, the Following list setting is the better tool. It hides the part most people care about and leaves the account public. Our guide on how to get more followers on TikTok covers what a public account needs to grow.

How to hide your follower count on TikTok

You cannot. There is no setting for it on public or private accounts. The count shows on every profile (TikTok Help).

What you can change is the number itself. If the problem is that the count looks small, or that you follow 900 people and 40 follow you back, the fix is the ratio, not a toggle. More on that below.

How to remove a follower without them knowing

If one specific person is the reason you want the list hidden, remove them instead of hiding the whole thing.

  1. Open Profile and tap your Followers count.
  2. Find the person and tap the three dots next to their name.
  3. Tap Remove this follower.

TikTok does not tell them (wikiHow). They can follow you again unless you block them. To block, open their profile, tap the three-dot icon, and tap Block. A blocked account cannot see your profile at all.

Why can’t I see all of someone’s followers on TikTok?

This is normal, and it happens for two reasons.

First, TikTok shows only a limited, partly random slice of a large follower list. On an account with tens of thousands of followers you will never scroll to the end. The rest are hidden by design.

Second, private accounts hide their lists from everyone who is not an approved follower. If you open a private profile you see the counts and nothing else.

Neither one means the account is hiding something from you in particular, and neither one means a follower list is fake. If you only want to track a count over time, our free TikTok counter shows the live follower number for any public account.

What hiding your list does and does not do

It does not hide your counts. Anyone can still see that you follow 900 people and have 40 followers.

It does not stop TikTok from showing your videos. Hiding the Following list is a display setting. It changes nothing about reach.

It does not make a follow-for-follow account look organic. People hide their following list because they follow far more people than follow them back. Hiding the list stops visitors from seeing who, but the ratio is still on the profile.

Where GetLikes fits

Most people who search for this want the profile to look balanced. The Following list setting hides one half of the picture. The other half is a follower count that matches.

We sell TikTok followers, 100 for $3.95. They raise the follower count so the ratio reads like a normal account. They do not watch your videos, and they do not turn a private account public.

Two honest notes. Your account must be public to receive them, because a private account has to approve every follower. And a public account is the only kind that grows on TikTok at all, so buying followers and then going private wastes the order.

If you want to know who is looking at your profile rather than who follows it, our guide on TikTok profile views explains that setting.

A five-minute privacy pass

  • Set Following list to Only me if you do not want people to see who you follow.
  • Set Liked videos to Only me if your likes are the problem.
  • Remove any follower you do not want on the list. They are not told.
  • Block anyone who should not see the profile at all.
  • Stay public unless the account is only for friends. Private stops growth.

Questions people ask

How do I hide my followers list on TikTok?

On a public account you cannot. TikTok has no setting for the followers list. The only way to hide it is to switch to a private account under Settings and privacy, Privacy, Private account. Then only approved followers can see who follows you (TikTok Help). The follower count still shows to everyone, and your videos stop reaching non-followers in the For You feed.

Can you hide people you follow on TikTok?

Yes. Open Settings and privacy, tap Privacy, tap Following list, and choose Only me. That hides the list of accounts you follow from everyone (TikTok Help, Followers and following). It is all or nothing. You cannot hide one account you follow and show the rest. Your following count still shows on your profile.

Can I hide my friends list on TikTok?

TikTok has no separate friends list to hide. Friends are people you follow who follow you back, so they appear in both your followers list and your following list. Set Following list to Only me to hide the following side. To hide the followers side you need a private account, and even then the counts stay visible.

Why can't I see all of someone's followers on TikTok?

Two normal reasons. TikTok shows only a limited, partly random slice of a large follower list, so you never reach the end of a big account. And private accounts hide their followers and following lists from anyone who is not an approved follower. Neither one means the account is hiding something from you in particular.

Can you hide your follower count on TikTok?

No. There is no setting for it on a public or a private account. The follower count and the following count show on every TikTok profile (TikTok Help). What you can change is the number itself, by growing the account or by fixing a lopsided ratio of following to followers.

Does a private TikTok account hide your followers?

It hides the list of names from anyone you have not approved. It does not hide the count. And it has a cost. Private accounts are shown only to approved followers, so your videos do not reach strangers in the For You feed, and growth from the feed stops (TikTok Help, How TikTok recommends content).
