  • Free to use
  • No login or email
  • Run it as many times as you like
  • Ideas only. Check the name in the TikTok app

Tell us about yourself and pick a tone. We will write username ideas you can use.

How it works

Three steps, no account needed.

  1. 1

    Describe your account

One line is enough. "Skateboarding tricks and gear reviews" gives the tool more to work with than "videos".

  2. 2

    Pick a tone

Funny, aesthetic, bold, minimal, and a few others. The tone changes the whole list, so try two or three.

  3. 3

    Copy your favourite

Tap Copy next to any idea. Then open TikTok and try the name there to see if it is still free.

Why use this tool

Free, fast, and it does not ask for anything it does not need.

  • Ideas in a few seconds

Type one line about your account and press the button. You get a fresh list of TikTok username ideas straight away.

  • No account, no email

There is no signup, no paywall, and no email box. We do not need your TikTok login either, because the tool never touches your account.

  • Run it again and again

Not keen on the first list? Change a word in your description or switch the tone and go again. There is no limit you will bump into.

  • Built around your niche

The ideas come from what you type. Say you post recipes for one person, and you get names about that, not random word salad.

Questions people ask

Straight answers about how this tool works.

What is a good username for TikTok?

A good TikTok username is short, easy to say out loud, and hints at what you post. "mayabakes" tells people more than "user9284713". Keep it easy to spell too, because people search for you by typing it.

How do I pick a good TikTok username?

Start with two things you want in the name: your first name, your niche, or a word people already use for your topic. Join them, keep it under about 15 characters, and say it out loud. If you stumble, pick another one.

Does this tool check if a TikTok username is available?

No. It writes ideas, but it cannot see which names are already taken. Type the one you like into TikTok, under Settings, then Account, then Username. TikTok tells you there if the name is free.

How to get rare TikTok usernames?

Rare short handles are mostly gone, and buying one from a reseller breaks TikTok rules and often ends in a lost account. The realistic route is a made-up word, an unusual spelling, or two ordinary words nobody has stuck together yet.

Are 5 letter TikTok names rare?

Yes, five-letter usernames are rare, because nearly every real word that short was claimed years ago. You can still find free ones by inventing a word rather than using a dictionary word.

What characters can a TikTok username use?

TikTok usernames allow letters, numbers, underscores and periods, and nothing else. No spaces, no emoji, no fancy fonts. The limit is 24 characters, and a username cannot end with a period.

How often can I change my TikTok username?

Once every 30 days. After you change it, TikTok locks the field until the 30 days are up, so it is worth sitting on a shortlist for a day before you commit.

Can I use an aesthetic font in my TikTok username?

Not in the username itself, because that field only takes plain letters, numbers, underscores and periods. Fancy fonts and symbols work in your display name, which is the bigger name shown above your handle.

How to pick a TikTok username you will not regret

The rules, the styles that work, and how to check a name is free before you use up your one change.

How to use the TikTok username generator

The tool sits at the top of this page. It takes about a minute end to end.

  1. 1
Say what your account is about

Be specific. "Gym tips for beginners" gives better ideas than "fitness".

  2. 2
    Choose a tone

Funny, aesthetic, minimal, bold. The same description gives very different lists.

  3. 3
    Shortlist three

Copy the ones you like into your notes app instead of picking on the spot.

  4. 4
    Test them in TikTok

Open Settings, then Account, then Username. TikTok will say if a name is taken.

TikTok’s username rules

TikTok is stricter than most apps about handles. Know the rules first and you will not waste time on ideas you cannot use.

RuleWhat it means for you
Letters, numbers, underscores and periods onlyNo spaces, no emoji, no hyphens, no accented letters.
24 characters maximumPlenty of room, but long names get cut off in comments and are harder to type.
Cannot end with a periodFine in the middle, as in "maya.bakes". Just not as the last character.
One change every 30 daysA typo you notice next week stays on your profile for a month.
Must be freeDeleted and dormant accounts still hold their names, so many short ones are locked up.

What makes a good TikTok username?

Most weak handles fail for the same few reasons. Here is the split.

Names that work

  • Short enough to read in one glance
  • Says something about what you post
  • Spelled the way it sounds
  • Still fits if your account grows

Names that hold you back

  • Random digits tacked on the end
  • Underscores stacked up as filler
  • A trend or a year that will date fast
  • So niche it boxes you into one topic

Think about how the name sounds when someone says it in a video. If a friend has to spell it letter by letter, it is costing you followers.

TikTok username ideas with your name, and without it

Both work. Using your name builds a face people recognise. Leaving it out keeps things private and lets you hand the account over later. Pick the pattern that fits, then fill in the blanks.

  • Name plus what you do: mayabakes, joerunsfar, sam.paints
  • Name plus a small word: itsmaya, hey.joe, samdaily
  • Two words about your niche: slowcoffeeclub, thriftedfits, mapleandmoss
  • Made-up word: lumeo, verlin, sootka. Short, and far more likely to be free.
  • Your job or role: theplantguy, budgetmum, gearnerd

For a private or secret account, drop your real name and any word from your bio. Use something only you would connect to yourself.

24Characters allowed in a TikTok username
30Days you must wait between username changes
4Character types allowed: letters, numbers, _ and .

How to check if a TikTok username is available

There is one reliable way: ask TikTok. Open the app, go to Settings and privacy, tap Account, then Username. Type the name in. TikTok shows a tick if it is free and an error if it is not.

You can also try tiktok.com/@thename in a browser. If a profile loads, the name is gone. If you get an error page, it might be free, though TikTok sometimes holds names back. The app is the answer that counts.

  • Read it back to yourself out loud
  • Check it does not spell something odd when the words run together
  • Search the name on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube so you can match it later
  • Ask one friend to type it from memory
  • Only then use your one change for the next 30 days

Rare, short and aesthetic handles

Short handles look clean, which is exactly why they went first. Anything under six letters that is also a real word was almost certainly claimed years ago.

You have two honest options. Invent a word, so nobody has ever needed it before. Or join two plain words in a way people have not thought of. Both beat sitting on a waiting list for a name that is never coming free.
